My Story
Skippack Golf Club, 2010, was where a dream was formed. I remember my Dad wore all black, like the 'Black Knight' and I was afraid he was going to pass out. Mr. Gary Player stood in front of a crowd in a small town in Pennslyvania and shared the pains and successes of becoming one of the Greats. The whole world carried on but seeing Mr. Player speak made my world stop. He came from nothing and inspired me to do the same.
For years I practiced at the Skippack Golf Course driving range, the same range Mr. Player had out drove in 2010. He hit the ball so hard and far over the net at the end of the range, and I dreamed of doing the same. I remember about three times in my life, Mr. Player happened to drive by the Skippack driving range and I had been practicing. His swing advice every time was "fire those hips" - and I listened.
Mr. Player proved to me that anyone can golf, anyone can be successful if they dare to dream big enough. My golf career does not end with winning my college championship, with my best friends in the line-up, for the first time in University history. I honestly do not know what will be the cap of my golf career. However, I know I am determined to keep going because one of the Greats pushed me at a public driving range many years ago to "keep going."
In 2008, I met Gary Player at the public golf course I grew up at for a clinic. His story resonated with me- and I envisioned myself standing exactly where he was, telling my story one day. I want my golf career to inspire kids that when the odds against you, you cannot give up. You work twice as hard, and end up exceeding your own expectations. This is why I drive on.
